SIPA is pleased to announce a major collaboration with Gepp, the Mexican bottler of Pepsi products, empowering them to significantly reduce their environmental footprint while achieving substantial cost savings. We've recently provided Gepp with the whole tooling fleet conversion, about 3,800 neck rings replacement, facilitating the lightweight of bottle necks across their entire range of their beverage products.
Gepp operates one of the most developed beverage markets in the world with an important product portfolio and major brands such as Pepsi, Gatorade, Mirinda, Manzanita, Sol, Jumex Fresh and its own water brand, Epura, among others.
Gepp's long-term and continuous efforts in terms of lightweighting have led it to reduce the weight of those packages that today represent more than 85% of the total volume sold, as well as representing a reference for the rest of the PepsiCo system in Latin America, where 7 of its packages represent the lightest bottle weight.
This conversion project enables Gepp to lighten their bottle necks from 3.8 grams to just 3.1 grams – a remarkable 18.4% reduction – achieved by adopting SIPA's PCO 1881 Lightweight neck finish. Crucially, this weight reduction is realized without any impact or changes to Gepp's existing bottling lines. The replacement of the neck rings only is a seamless process, minimizing disruption and maximizing efficiency.
Even more importantly, this solution requires no closure changes. Gepp can continue using their current caps, avoiding further costs associated with sourcing and implementing new closures. This additional advantage further enhances the financial benefits of the conversion.
Thanks to SIPA's neck ring technology, Gepp will save an estimated 2,800 tons or, on a different perspective, an amazingover 125 of40 feet containers of PET annually. This substantial decrease in PET consumption not only promotes sustainability but also translates into enormous savings based on current PET prices. With a simple neck rings replacement, Gepp achieves a remarkable return of investment, demonstrating the power of innovation to drive both environmental responsibility and economic success within the beverage industry.
